| There can be no doubt that
the role of the traditional Chamber of Commerce in the UK is set to change over the next
decade, as we enter the new Millennium. In Europe, Chambers of Commerce are the paramount
organisations for business development and, as the UK moves ever closer to the European
model, more and more businesses are recognising the importance of becoming members of
their local Chamber of Commerce. We have certainly seen this in our Chamber, with
membership figures increasing dramatically over the past two years. |
|
| There will also be a significant change in the
nature of services offered by a Chamber of Commerce as businesses move into the
Information Age. The advent of e-commerce and the Internet gives businesses opportunities
for opening up new markets but, it will also bring global competition. |

Through our work under the InterComm Project, your Pembrokeshire Chamber of Commerce has developed expertise and practical hands-on experience at designing, developing and hosting Web sites. Now that InterComm II is under way, we are also able to offer Internet marketing advice - making sure that our members' sites are seen .... amongst the 43 million sites currently on the Web! We are committed to developing our range of electronic commerce and Internet based services and, aim to become a Chamber of Electronic Commerce in the year 2000. With Objective 1 in mind, our Company Limited by Guarantee, ChamberBridge Ltd, will focus on the management of projects to deliver increased services to you, our members, and benefits to local businesses. In order to ensure that the Chamber continues to expand its role in the economic
development of Pembrokeshire, we have advertised for a part-time Executive Director to
take the Chamber forward and ensure that all members are informed of the range of services
on offer. |

As part of our restructuring process, from February 2000, membership fees will be collected by direct debit, spread over a 10 month period - leaving Christmas and the New Year clear for more important spending decisions! Once these arrangements have been finalised, the whole restructuring proposal will be placed before you all at the AGM so that you can vote on your 21st Century Chamber! |
We are looking for local business people who want to ensure that your Chamber responds effectively to the challenges of the 21st Century: Objective 1; Electronic Commerce; Information Technology, etc. If you share our vision for the future and would like to play an active
role in the future development of your Chamber, why not stand for election to the Chamber
Council? |
